After nine colourful and event filled days, the 2015 Royal FLORIA Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival came to a glorious conclusion. The eighth edition of festival, decorated with several firsts, is recognized as the most successful since the festival began in 2007. Royal FLORIA Putrajaya has witnessed tremendous growth since its inception and for 2015, the festival featured 400,000 flower and garden exhibits from many different species, cultivars and ornamental plants spread across the 11.2 hectare festival site.
This year festival featured more than 300 activities which thrilled visitors and participants alike, many of whom stuck around the festival site long after closing hours. The Spring and Winter Gardens proved to be the most popular attractions and visitors waited in line patiently for more than an hour to enter and take in the unique sights on show. The festival was held over the school holidays and this proved to be a positive factor providing vacationing families and students a healthy and worthwhile destination during the holidays. The organizer of the festival, Putrajaya Corporation, was also generous to charge nominal entrance fees of RM5 for adults and RM1 for children below 12. It attracted close to one million visitors over the nine day period.
Themed “Tapestry of Hues” the festival presented the Lily as the festival flower, and the flower can be seen over the festival site and many visitors took the opportunity to purchase the flowers for as low as RM15 at the Garden Bazaar and Horticulture Mart. Visitors from as far as Ipoh, Perak were not disappointed and took the opportunity to also purchase many different types of flowers on offer. Many expressed a hope the festival will continue to be a feature attraction at Putrajaya in the coming years.
Visitors would be glad to know that the festival site at Precinct 4 Putrajaya, aptly named Anjung Floria or Floria Corridor is now the permanent site for the festival. Flower and garden exhibits are maintained regularly to tease and please the visual palates of visitors all year round. The site is set to be another visitor attraction at Putrajaya.
The 2015 Royal FLORIA Putrajaya has truly set a splendid precedent to emulate and plans are already on the drawing board for a grander 9th edition of Royal FLORIA Putrajaya that is set to attract both Malaysians and foreign tourists for another colourful and memorable experience.
