Hosting the Time Ironman 70.3 for the second time on April 5, 2015, Putrajaya as the federal administrative capital was the ideal location for such event with its extensive wide roads, pedestrian walkways complimented by the breathtaking panoramic backdrop of the city.
The race, which started at 7.15 am, had more than 1,300 world class pro athletes from 55 countries all over the world to participate in the challenge with the theme ‘Race in Putrajaya, The Intelligent Garden City’.
Malaysia has conquered the majority of the international participants, followed by Singapore in which 64% of the participations were a line up of international athletes. As compared to the first Time Ironman 70.3 in 2014, the number of Malaysian triathletes had rapidly increased.
With a new venue setting for the year 2015, the race has taken place at Anjung Floria in Precint 4, Putrajaya. The venue allowed the participants and supporters to enjoy the landscape setting of Royal Floria Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival along with stunning green decor and artistically distinctive Seri Saujana Bridge as the background view for the swimming competition.
The total distance of 70.3 miles (113 km) for the entire race explains the name of Ironman 70.3 series which begins with 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling, and ends with 21 km of running competition.
The world champion of five-time Ironman, Australian Craig Alexander who was excited to be returning to Malaysia as the official ambassador was topped off by Italian Domenico Passuello with 3’58:16, with the Men’s title of the 2015 Time Ironman 70.3. With 4’09.38, Alexander came in second place and the third place was conquered by Fedrik Croneborg (4’10:12) from Sweden.
In conjunction to this event, Royal Floria Putrajaya 2015 will be the 8th edition of the only Malaysia’s international flower and garden festival, which will be held at the same venue, Anjung Floria, Precint 4 in Putrajaya. Opening from 30 May to 7 June 2015 with the theme ‘Tapestry of Hues’, Royal Floria Putrajaya 2015 will signify a Lily flower themed exhibition and its family in especially designed gardens and displays. Hosted by Perbadanan Putrajaya in the association with Tourism Malaysia and the Ministry of Federal Territories, Royal Floria Putrajaya 2015 promises to be greater and improved with numerous new elements that are believed to attract not only local visitors but also tourists to Putrajaya.
