Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur was crowned the winner of the 7th University Gardens Competition in conjunction with the 8th Royal FLORIA Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival 2015 organised by Putrajaya Corporation in cooperation with the Ministry of Education Malaysia.
The competition saw 57 mini gardens that were designed and laid out by more than 1240 students, lecturers and teachers. The competition held during Royal FLORIA Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival 2015 witnessed a marked improvement in garden concepts, work quality and the quality of plant exhibits mobilised to highlight lilies, the 8th Royal FLORIA festival flower as the main attraction in the gardens.
The gardens entered in the competition were live exhibits aimed at manifesting values that correspond to love for natural beauty while increasing awareness amongst students on the quality of our natural environment that needs to be enhanced with the creation of gardens filled with trees and flowering plants. This Schools and University Gardens competition at Royal FLORIA is the first such competition in the world.
The competition this year saw Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur winning the University Gardens Gold Award as the best university garden. The award came with a cash prize of RM2,000.00, trophy and medals for the participants. Dato’ Lela Maharaja Vocational College won the silver award bagging a cash prize of RM1,500.00, trophy and medals. While Nilai Polytech won the bronze award receiving RM1,000.00 cash, a trophy and medals.
In the secondary schools competition, the Gold Award went to SMK Puchong who won RM1,500.00 cash, trophy and medals. SMK Bandar Tasik Kesuma grabbed the Silver Award with RM1000.00 cash, a trophy and medals while SMK Putrajaya Precinct 14 (1) won the Bronze Award taking with them a cash prize of RM750.00, trophy and medals.
Among primary schools, the Gold Award went to SK Putrajaya Precinct 9 (1) who received a cash prize of RM1,500.00 followed by SK Bukit Damansara with the Silver Award with a cash rpize of RM1000.00. SK Putrajaya Precinct 9 (2) bagged the Bronze Award receiving a cash prize of RM750.00. All three winning schools also received trophies and medals.
Prizes were also given out to Universities, Secondary Schools dan Primary Schools for Garden Starlight Award, Garden Creative Award dan Special Jury Award as well as several categories of Floral Art events that saw the participation of primary and secondary schools students. The festival also gave away prizes to winners in the Colouring Competition for pre-schoolers.
Themed ‘Tapestry of Hues’ and featuring lilies as the festival flower, Royal FLORIA Putrajaya 2015 Flower and Garden Festival is Malaysia’s very own international flower and garden festival hosted by Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) and supported by the Ministry of Federal Territories and Tourism Malaysia and promises an exhibition of lilies in specially designed and landscaped gardens and exhibits aimed to delight the visual palates of visitors. The festival is managed by PPj’s wholly owned subsidiary, Putrajaya Floria Sdn Bhd.
