2015 Royal FLORIA Putrajaya Opens with Royal Hue Graced by The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah
The eighth edition of Royal FLORIA Putrajaya opens its doors to an expected 1 million visitors, unveiling the premier flower and garden festival in Malaysia and one of the grandest in the Asia-Pacific region. The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah Hamidun consented to grace the official opening ceremony marked by colourful pomp and gaiety reminiscent of a royal ensemble and flair.
The festival debuted as the Putrajaya Flower and Garden Festival in 2007, subsequently seeing tremendous growth in visitors and exhibits to be renamed royal FLORIA Putrajaya in 2013. And the festival has never looked backed since while looking to a future of receiving global recognition as another premier flower and garden festival. The festival is now a prominent fixture in Malaysia’s tourism calendar gaining the support of the Ministry of Federal Territories and Tourism Malaysia.
Themed “Tapestry of Hues” with Lilies as the Festival Flower, the festival features more than 100 species of lilies throughout the festival permanent site, Anjung Floria, at Precinct 4, Putrajaya in addition to more than 400,000 exhibits on flowers, gardens, landscaping and horticultural products over a nine-day official festival. Royal FLORIA Putrajaya 2015 presents several new attractions including the Spring and Winter Gardens which are set to enthral visitors, especially children, with holograms, simulated snowflakes and fresh flowers designed beds.
While the embassy row, located at the Floral Pavilion, is a showcase of national flowers from various countries. Royal FLORIA Putrajaya 2015 attracted the participation of twenty-eight countries including Australia, Canada, Cambodia, Denmark, Ecuador, Kenya, Hong Kong, Macau, India, Indonesia and the United Kingdom, represented by 50 participants displaying their garden landscaping and floral designs. The permanent site at Anjung Floria has opened the prospect for the site to be a perennial attraction at Putrajaya with some attractions planned to become semi-permanent fixtures, till work begins for the next FLORIA. These are the Royal Garden sponsored by the Shapadu Group of Companies, the Spa Garden, The PPj Garden and the Malaysia-China Friendship Garden.
An impressive and remarkable celebration of everything floral and garden, Royal FLORIA Putrajaya will boost Putrajaya’s reputation as a tourist destination for both local and foreign tourists; strengthening its vision to be the world’s first intelligent garden city.
Royal FLORIA Putrajaya also gained a prestigious recognition; the Joyce White Award of Excellence by the World Flower Council International. This prestigious endorsement brings with it USD500 prize money to the winning participant in the Floral Pavilion for Outstanding Creative Excellence.
After officially opening Royal FLORIA Putrajaya 2015, the Raja Permaisuri Agong spent two hours visiting several attractions which included the Royal Garden themed after the Sri Menanti Palace in Negri Sembilan, the Cat (Feline) Pavilion, and the Spring and Winter Gardens. The Raja Permaisuri Agong also consented to receive commemorative gifts of a Maine Coon female cat named “Cocoon” from the Malaysian Cat Lovers Club, which will be paired with the male “Louis Vuitton” given as a gift to The Yang Dipertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim at Royal FLORIA Putrajaya 2014; and a hybrid orchid variety named after Her Majesty, “Denrobium Tuanku Haminah Royal”, from Datin Seri Anggreani Sentiyaki, the wife to Dato’ Seri Tengku Adnan, Minister of Federal Territories.
Royal FLORIA 2015 was planned as a very special and memorable tribute through the last 7 FLORIAs, something that would signify the splendour of everything flora and garden in all its glory. The entire organising team worked virtually around the clock on the mammoth task of building amazing sprawling gardens, stupendous pavilions and temporary infrastructure, as the components of Royal FLORIA Putrajaya 2015 started taking shape at Anjung Floria.
Spanning 29 acres, Anjung Floria is now home to a number of perennial attractions, namely the China-Malaysia Friendship Garden, English Garden, Fantasy Garden, Pinwheel Garden. In addition, there is also Galeria D’Floria, a showcase of FLORIA’s merchandise and commemorative gifts and an essential part of the branding exercise for Royal FLORIA Putrajaya.
The hundreds of thousands of visitors who thronged Anjung FLORIA were certainly never disappointed and instead, went way in complete awe, looking forward to another unforgettable experience in 2015. The world is witnessing how Malaysia puts on a world-class flower and garden festival. We take great pride in our achievement and our enthusiasm will keep the spirit of Royal FLORIA to spread across the globe. And the good news is the showcase is now open to visitors all year round.
